We at Paytoo agree with Keith Rabois’ stance on NFC (Near Field Communications) in his recent interview with GigaOM founder, Om Malik. In addition to Mr. Rabois’ many reasons why NFC will not work, we believe NFC’s feasibility issues begin with the business model and proposed allocation of profits. Too many players would have to get involved, including, but not limited to banks, telecom providers, network operators and handset manufacturers.
Distributing profits amongst all these players and keeping everybody satisfied would be extremely complicated. Sure, there are many big name companies that have already invested in NFC technology and implementation, but they are largely underestimating the amount of change that would have to occur for NFC to succeed – behind the scenes and in the marketplace.

Paytoo has announced the addition of a multi-currency mobile payment platform to its SIM-based mobile wallet.
According to Paytoo, the company’s mobile wallet service now supports international, mobile multi-currency transfers across the globe in real time, as well as online mobile payments and prepaid account top up through 185 mobile operators in 85 countries.
“Real-time transactions can be made from virtually anywhere in the world,” said the company in a release. “Users can transfer funds from Ecuador to Nepal and all points in between. For the daily needs of the unbanked population, Paytoo’s system is more efficient than any other solution in the current marketplace.”
Paytoo operates through the USSD network and is compatible with any operating system, mobile operator and handset, according to the company.
The solution is currently available in 60,000 US locations and over 400,000 worldwide that accept cash deposits - most recently in Ecuador, Argentina, Paraguay, and Mexico.

A list of countries and phone companies can be found in the User Guide in your Paytoo admin. Always check to ensure that the intended recipient has a phone company that we support. You can check the supported network and accepted denomination by sending a text in this format: TOPXXXXXXXXXXX to 1 (201) 345 5992 if in the United States (and +44 762 481 4675 internationally). The system will reply with the accepted network and denominations. When done, the recipient will receive confirmation of the Top Up on their cell phone.
